NVL2 RVB Women: RIchmond played their aces to beat Reading
Leaving behind two consecutive defeats against leaders Oxford, Richmond team re-grouped and trained hard to be ready to face Reading Aces. Reading was one of the teams fighting for a promotion at the start of the season and although they noticeably slowed down after Christmas , that team still represented a danger for Richmond.
The first set started very nervously for RVB but they showed character and with some good hits by Gledia and Issie they fought till the end conceding just two points 25-27.
The second set was a different story, the team started rediscovering their spark and with some great serving and good team defence and the great contribution from Dani’s serving tRVB closed the second at 26-16.
The third and fourth set saw RVB imposing their middle hitters, strong serving by Gleidia, Lisa and Dani and some powerful hits by Aurelia. Richmond dominated and dictated the pace of the game and finished sets at 25-18 and 25-19 respectively.
Coach Giorgio Scatigna-Gianfagna” GSG” commented : ” This victory is extremely important at this stage of the season and bouncing back from two consecutive defeats was vital, physiologically . It takes us back straight in contention for at least a playoff position. Each game, each set is going to be so very important for us. The team deserves to be in this position. We just need to stay very focused and implement a game plan each weekend.”
The league table looks so tight with RVB in third position at 33 points having played 2 games less than the second position Darford at 35 and with Oxford at 38 having played one more game than RVB. The main contenders for a playoff with RVB is Aschombe at 28 points having played one game less than RVB. March 17th, Sunday RVB visits Aschombe.
